Job Description

  • This position is for GreenPlum Administrator, supporting global IT application infrastructure. This role requires strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills to interact with various IT and business groups.
  • The successful candidate will work and interact with all levels of IT Operations, IT Applications, and IT Business Engagement teams to understand VMware business strategy and its implication to the infrastructure.
  • This role requires to focus primarily on the design, development and operability with optimum performance and availability of complex GreenPlum systems.
  • This role needs to consult with senior management to develop and promote GreenPlum strategies and programs that meet the company’s business needs.
  • This position requires being current on technological advancements, evaluate new products in the market, and identify opportunities to improve system or people productivity and capability to manage large infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development, architecture, and release teams, providing architectural design recommendations, driving standards for effective GreenPlum transition to production operations.
  • Drive End to end availability, performance monitoring, and capacity planning for GreenPlum, using different tools.
  • Implement automated methods and industry best practices for consistent installation and configuration of GreenPlum for production and non-production environments.
  • Create users, establish database security, create resource queue, Performance tuning in terms of query execution etc.
  • Plan and coordinate system upgrades.
  • Work with modelers, architects, BI Team and ETL analysts to determine the appropriate physical data architecture, including table layouts, Indexes, data storage schemes, etc. based on Greenplum solution and workload.
  • Conduct technical reviews and Walkthroughs of system design documentation with development and design team members.
  • Develop and execute test plans and play an active role in project rollouts.
  • Design, implement and Support backup and recovery functions for a Greenplum data warehouse environment.
  • Proactively monitor and setup Alerting mechanism for both database and supporting hardware to ensure system health and maximum availability.
  • Generating reports of all processes and jobs currently running on GP with details like users, start and end time, CPU Usage and time, Memory usage, IO Time, locking etc.

Education:

  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6-8 years experience supporting GreenPlum in large enterprise environments.

Requirements:

  • 6-8 years of experience in GreenPlum administration.
  • In depth technical knowledge and implementation experience in power balancing, shut down/startup procedures, System labeling.
  • In depth knowledge about the GreenPlum hardware and architecture.
  • Solutions Design and installation/configuration experience with GreenPlum administration.
  • Experience supporting Large GreenPlum enterprise environment.
  • Exposure to ITIL processes.
  • Expertise in problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.
  • Expertise on GreenPlum sizing & end to end performance fine tuning.
  • Experience in Java / VB / Shell scripting to automate administrative tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, working effectively with IT support teams, management, and internal users.
  • Flexibility for working in any of the two prime day shifts only, based on business demand.
  • Experience with MySQL, Oracle databases, Linux environment will be preferred.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team; attention to detail is essential for this position.
